The Family Empowerment Program (Eastern Michigan University)

Mission: To support individuals and families through resource navigation and community building in order to foster self sufficiency and enhance quality of life.

The Family Empowerment Program (FEP) is a community-based initiative housed at Eastern Michigan University, led by a dedicated team of six social workers serving Ypsilanti Housing Commission communities. Rooted in southern Ypsilanti, FEP is committed to supporting individuals and families through personalized, community-centered services that promote self-sufficiency and long-term well-being.

FEP provides wraparound services, resource navigation, and referrals to more than 400 families across Hamilton Crossing, New Parkridge, Sauk Trail Pointe, Hollow Creek, and Towner. Through a person-centered approach, we address critical needs such as housing, food access, child care, transportation, health care, and education support. Our staff work directly with residents to build relationships, set goals, and connect them to opportunities that improve health, education, and economic outcomes—ultimately empowering individuals to lead more stable and fulfilling lives.
