Who We Are
Mission: To partner with children, youth, and families from under-resourced Washtenaw County neighborhoods to create better futures for themselves and improve the communities in which they live.
Community Action Network (CAN) envisions the closing of socio-economic gaps by providing educational and enrichment programs for children and teens, supportive services for families who are under-resourced, and challenging systems rooted in racism and inequality.
What We Do
Community Action Network partners with children, youth, and families from under-resourced Washtenaw County neighborhoods to create better futures for themselves, and improve the communities in which they live. This includes services like:
- Stabilizing Families – support, advocacy, case management, food distributions/pantries
- Educating Children and Youth – We aim to meet our students’ basic needs, and, what we have coined as, their foundational needs, both of which we believe are equally important for empowering children and youth to thrive.
- Building Strong Communities – CAN operates seven community centers located within specific communities. These community centers are spaces for parties, group meetings, CAN’s educational, stabilization, and community-building programs, residents have access to computers with Internet, and more. They are a “third place” for many to come and spend quality time with one another, to have their basic needs met, and for their communities celebrated.
