The Arc of Northwest Wayne County ("The Arc NW") was founded as a grassroot, membership-based nonprofit in 1961 by a group of dedicated parents with the goal of improving the lives of those who have intellectual or developmental disabilities and supporting their families. The programs and services offered by The Arc NW span a lifetime to enrich the lives of people with disabilities and empower those we serve through equity and the ability to plan for a future supported by their community. We have 10 full-time and 3 part-time employees.
What We Do
We provide lifetime advocacy for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, starting at birth. Core programs include early development through guided play, the only toy lending library for children with disabilities in Michigan, advocacy education and one-on-one guidance so individuals can complete their education, advocacy education so families may plan for the future, and life management support including financial management services. We have a corps of 200 volunteers who assist with athletics, social programs, and fundraising events for the benefit of individuals with disabilities and their families.
