Who We Are
Mission: To provide compassionate end-of-life care and support to patients and their families, honoring their unique needs and preferences throughout the hospice journey.
Heartland Hospice provides care to patients facing a terminal illness, as well as support for their families. We visit patients wherever they live: home, nursing home, independent living facility or anywhere else in southeastern Michigan. At Heartland, we consider our involvement with patients a sacred opportunity and a privilege to be in their lives. We depend on our hospice volunteers to help us provide the love, respect and care our patients and their families need. Formerly known as ProMedica Hospice, Heartland is now part of Gentiva Health Services.
What We Do
Heartland volunteers offer support, companionship and practical, compassionate help to people nearing the end of life and those who support them. Volunteers help in numerous ways, such as:
- Reading, talking to or providing a comforting touch for patients
- Playing or singing soothing music to patients
- Staying with patients so family members can rest
- Keeping vigil with patients in their final hours
- Helping with office support tasks at the agency
As a Heartland Hospice volunteer, you can donate as much or as little of your time as you desire. We work with you to find a geographic area or service that is uniquely suited to you and provides you with the greatest personal satisfaction.
At Heartland (formerly ProMedica Hospice), we provide volunteers with a detailed orientation to the hospice program so they fully understand our caring philosophy and goals, and have the skills needed to assist patients and their families. We help patients in Livingston, Oakland, Wayne, and Washtenaw Counties in Michigan.
