We looking for volunteers to join Friday, June 19 as we prepare for a Walk for Racial Justice and Juneteenth celebration or at the event on Saturday, June 20.
Friday, June 19 -, Fuller Park, anytime between 9am-6pm: All-day station prep day for the making of large sign boards that will be along the Juneteenth Walk for Racial Justice on Saturday. The idea is to have large visual plywood signs that honor/celebrate/educate/ and develop action steps toward improving our community. We have paint and some printing access and we are looking for individuals or organizations who want to pick a theme and help us create these boards. Potential themes include Juneteenth history and meaning; educational resources about Black Lives Matter; actions step you would like to see from the city, community, as an individual; actual action steps and those resources to take to create change; celebration of black artists or murals; or any other creative idea that you may have!
We are flexible on times, as we plan to be preparing all day so if you have a specific time you would like to be here, or a station theme, we can add that information to the sign up. If you are just willing to come and help on Friday, that’s okay as well; we do have some guiding ideas if you need them. Let us know your thoughts as we are open to what our volunteers would like to contribute to make this event action-oriented: something participants can specifically do in the moment, something they can do at home, or thought-provoking steps our community can take.
Saturday, June 20, 2020. 8:30a.m.-12p.m. We are looking for volunteers to help along the walk. Either to facilitate a mural station or to guide walkers at a street crossing. Volunteers are asked to wear a mask, a t-shirt related to Black Lives Matter, Stand Up Together, etc. and will also be equipped with a safety/volunteer vest.
Contact volunteer@a2gov.org or call 734.794.6445 to find out how you can support this Juneteenth celebration or how to add something educational/celebratory/inspirational/action-oriented to the Juneteenth Walk for Racial Justice.
